The Humble Turnip focuses on helping local youth and matching them with job shadow & volunteer opportunities, positive social interactions between peers and the community.  It is a Program that was created to directly benefit the 1,770 local youth in New Egypt and surrounding areas.  We will strive to make a positive impact in our small rural town showing by example of positive behaviors, teaching arts & crafts and building up the youths’ confidence within the community.  By showing how they can positively make an impact and creating a safe space, the youths have the potential to grow in new ways.  By creating events, classes and projects that help them and the community, it will help foster the creative aspects of development, design and building from scratch.  It will teach resourcefulness, strength and teamwork building our village into what we really need. 

     Instead of traveling outside of our community, we develop and build our own experiences. Our main service is promoting “It takes a village to raise a child” concept.  Leading our local youth in good decision making, exhibiting appropriate work ethic, and having positive social responses by keeping them off the streets within our ‘village’ environment.  We will also create specific activities and opportunities that promote volunteerism and help local interests, have fundraisers, cleanups and job-shadowing for preteen to teen youth year round.

     New Egypt as always had plenty of agricultural and nature activites available year round for the locals.  Centered in the heart of rural New Jersey cornfields and Pine Barrens, there are so many unique aspects to this area.  While it may have been somewhat quite over the last decade, it appears to be on an uptick in interest in all things natural, homestead and handicrafts of old. It does take a village to raise a child, just as it does to keep a town going. This land has always had plenty of opportunities for the wise ones to grab hold of.  And introducing these activities and businesses to the youth of the town is wise indeed, for it can shape our future.
